How does the cost of living in Spain relate to other European capitals?

The cost of living in Spain has nothing to do with the way it used to be years ago. Property prices have increased by more than 100% in the past three or four years and the introduction of the Euro assisted the increase in the cost of living. Gran Canaria is the most expensive place to buy food in the country.  Let’s say that a single person will need to earn 1500€ netto per month to enjoy a decent but not luxurious quality of life.
