DISCOVERING THE REAL GRAN CANARIA

The paradise island of Gran Canaria is located in the Atlantic Ocean, 130 miles from the African coast. It is the third largest of the Canary Islands and has Fuerteventura and Tenerife as it neighbours. Las Palmas, situated in the north east of the island is its capital.

Gran Canaria

From the cooler north to the sunnier south, this perfect holiday island has everything the most discerning traveller could wish for; the great diversity of climate, flora and fauna has led to this island being dubbed "The Miniature Continent". Where else can one find acres of sand dunes with a backdrop of verdant mountains within easy reach of some of the best hotels, clubs, bars and cafés in Europe?

Gran Canaria has a lot to offer the tourist and those wishing to start a brand new life in the island. The north side is perfect for cultural activities, great shopping and business. The south is much more relaxed even though it also has its business area. The most popular places to visit is Puerto de Mogán (a picturesque village also known as Little Venice), Puerto Rico, Maspalomas and the famous Playa del Ingles. But with its spectacular views and landscapes, make sure you don't miss the west coast and the island interior.

Weather and Climate

The Canaries enjoy a worldwide fame, gained because of its mild climate, one of the best in the whole world. Gran Canaria’s weather is mild, with pleasant temperatures, rarely too high and almost always constant.

The average temperatures oscillate in the summer months between 26 ºC and 28 ºC (79 – 82 °F), often exceeding 30 °C (86 °F), and in the winter months between 22 ºC and 24 ºC.

Gran Canaria is a mountainous island where the trade winds prevail all year. This island deserves the nickname 'continent in miniature', as it holds a wide variety of microclimates that go from the subtropical to the continental climates.
